"Attack of the Mutant Guppies" is an episode of Garfield and Friends. It was the 75th episode to be produced for the series, although it is listed as the 72nd episode on the Garfield and Friends DVD. It originally aired on October 21, 1989.
Episode recap
Garfield and Rosalina catch Nermal opening the refrigerator in the middle of the night, but Nermal explains that she’s looking for food for her pet guppy, not her. Garfield warns her not to do so, and then he tells Nermal a story about giant, radioactive, mutant guppies that live in the sewer.
According to the story, people take guppies that they don’t want as pets and dump them down the sewer. The person who does so is Rosalina's younger sister Rosalinda. The guppies then absorb the chemicals that people also pour down the sewer, and they eventually turn into mutant guppies. After the story concludes, Nermal tries to go to sleep, but she is unable to because she is afraid the guppies will get her. She wakes Garfield up and tells him this, to which Garfield states that he made the legend up and Rosalinda is faraway. Nermal then wants Garfield to take he outside and prove that there really aren’t mutant guppies, but Garfield instead tries to go back to sleep until Nermal threatens to play Binky the Clown records.
Garfield and Nermal go down into the sewer system, and they soon come across a gang of mutant guppies. They quickly run back up to the street and Garfield stands on the sewer lid to seal the guppies in, but they pop out anyway. Garfield then runs off and comes back with a barrel of tartar sauce, which he uses to threaten the guppies ("Quick, Nermal! Get me about 600 slices of lemon!"). The guppies in turn jump back into the sewer and swim away toward the river. Garfield then tells Nermal that they will never see the
guppies again, and soon Rosalina meets with Rosalinda and proceeds to be with her forever.
