I've expanded a bit, putting in the discography.
Further work: I don't know where to find highest-chart achievement information for the singles and album. If you do, please add it in.
I know I should have a reference for the album's chart performance, but I can't find one. So if you know one... pomegranate 16:12, Aug 5, 2004 (UTC)

Do we still call #1 singles "hits"? I thought the singles market was waning significantly, so to be a number 1 single wasn't all that difficult to orchestrate.
Maybe the use of the word 'singer' is dubious too. I've never actually seen her sing - only mime. Presumably it is her voice?. I remember that she once swapped voice-boxes with Jo O'Meara for a time; Jo's powerful voice still being audible whilst Jo herself was absent from the stage with back trouble.
cleanup
203.215.103.7's edits on 30 October, whilst I am sure was done with good intentions and does contain some new information, is horrendous and makes the article unreadable. There are many spelling & grammar mistakes and appears to have been badly translated from another language. Some selected extracts:
"On April 9, 1978 came in Rachel Lauren Stevens"
"At the age of 20, Simon Cowel was working"
"She has now had her solo carreer. She is unique in ways such as for always changing her style (hair and jewery and clothes) every performance and appearance."
"Stevens never stopped reaching for the stars"
"and shocked lots of other artists and fans for just starting yet gaining huge success already"
The article is in need of clean-up or the last edits reverted --PTSE 04:55, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- Cleaned up article and added stuff here and there. Underneath-it-All 06:43, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
"born to a Jewish family" promotes a racial stereotype. If she is Jewish, just say it, if you really want to. ----Signed, me
- Think I've got the formatting on the article sorted although it still needs lot of citation/reference stuff that I can't provide. Jasynnash2 (talk) 11:58, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
male cancer awareness advertisement
nothing about her starring this ad ? http://www.rachelgetsfruity.com/ // 83.24.42.180 19:21, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Acting
In the acting section is says that Stevens is likely to be seen in the upcoming James Bond film. Has ner name even been mentioned as one of the Bond girls? And if yes, what is the source for these rumours? Underneath-it-All 15:46, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Charts in countries other then the UK?
Does anyone know of Miss. Stevens' chart peaks in other countries? Sales and certifications (if any) would be wonderful too! Thanks! Underneath-it-All 01:03, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Featured Music Project evaluation
Rachel Stevens has been evaluated according to the Featured Music Project criteria, most recently affirmed as of this revision. The article's most important issues are listed below. Since this evaluation, the article may have been improved.
The following areas need work to meet the criteria: Lead - Comprehensiveness - Pictures - Audio - References - Format/Style |
- The space below is for limited discussion on this article's prospects as a featured article candidate. Please take conversations to the article talk page.
- Lead: 2-5 paragraphs, summarize everything in the article
- Comprehensiveness: more on musical style and influences, more on critical reception
- Pictures: lack of free pics is lamentable, need fair use rationales
- Audio: Needs sound samples
- References: need something more independent and authoritative, preferably print and scholarly, but at least a magazine article or two, or allmusic or something)
- Format and style: combine discography into one section, "Other Rachel Stevens related articles" should be "see also", and either or both of those links ought to be worked into the article, some stubby paragraphs, "Future In Music" is a major problem, needs copyedit overall
- Sales: looks good, though consider adding more countries
Advertising
Aren't the list of tour dates hear essentially just advertising
- I believe so. If someone would like to re-add them they can do so in an article about the tour. -- Underneath-it-All 16:19, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Beautiful 2009
I have reverted a section that mentioned a film coming out in 2009, as it appeared to be a crystal ballism and not factual from what I could tell. If any sources can be brought feel free to revert me. Yanksox 16:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Personal life
I found this under the personal life, which may be true to some degree: "Much of this section is speculation and unfounded rumor. It has no factual foundation, such as official newspaper wedding announcements, marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc. It is doubtful that this belongs in an encyclopedia."
Should this section be given an overhaul? -- Greaser 10:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Do we even need this section? It seems stalky and gossipy. And the bullet about her eye colour is redundant, since you can see the color clearly on the pictures in the article. 145.97.225.227 18:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I thought the whole Filipino/Chinese heritage was just widely speculated on the internet and never said by Rachel herself or found at any official source?? 76.30.52.19 16:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
90% of this section seems to be unverifiable and unreferenced, i agree that it needs an overhaul. Also, I am removing the 'vandalism' which says she is the daughter of Shakin' Stevens and neice of Cat Stevens. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.174.24 (talk) 00:03, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think the whole section should be removed. It's not encyclopediac information who she's dating and who she's split up with etc. If she got married perhaps it might be briefly referred to in a summing up of what she's doing now. On a seperate note, I found an article from the Guardian: "1000 albums you must hear before you die". It includes "Come and Get It" and I've included it in the appropriate section with a link.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 03:14, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Acting Career
I have removed the following as there do not appear to be any citations for this:
"Since going solo, she has auditioned for a role in the Jude Law movie Alfie, but lost the role to Sienna Miller. She also secretly auditioned for a role as the leading lady in the re-make of the hit series Doctor Who, but lost the part to Billie Piper. Stevens appeared in a minor role in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. She has also been called numbers of times to star in the Dr. Who spin-off Torchwood, and has been called for a meeting to sit with the show's producers. She has recently stated to New! magazine that she would like to attend drama school to receive proper training. She has previously announced that she would love to act with Oscar nominees such as Clive Owen and Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt. "
Please feel free to put it back if this can be verified, with footnotes stating the exact sources.
I removed this note from the trivia section:
"*Went to school with a Bristol Secondary School Teacher"
...as it didn't appear to make much sense.
Behaviour
Interesting that there is no mention of her legendary awkwardness - a fact which could explain her sporadic musical output, as she often has trouble finding producers that are prepared to work with her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.95.99.103 (talk) 14:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
heya
heya i am just wondering why we havent heard of rachael stevens for ages i think it is kind of weird that a good singer like her would just disappear
Education and religion
The article mentions her having studied at the London School of Fashion- there's no such institution, but there is a London College of Fashion. Is that what's meant?
Also, why does the article not mention that she's Jewish- i think this is notable? 79.68.104.71 (talk) 20:07, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- She is categorized twice (English Jews & Jewish singers) as far as her religion as concerned. As for the London School of Fashion thing, that is the name the source provided. I had a hard time finding reliable sources regarding the subject, so if you have one, feel free to add it and refactor the article accordingly. Pinkadelica 05:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Main article picture
Shouldn't a more tasteful picture be used to depict this lovely woman? She is a respectable and tasteful performer, and should be revered by the Wikipedia community and its users. An image file titled "Rachel Stevens holding right boobie.jpg" acts as a degrading dismissal of an otherwise amazing person. I know from personal experience that if you start to give people an inch, they'll take a mile. This one time when I was at the park with some friends, chillin out maxin relaxin out cool. Shootin some b ball outside of the school when a couple of guys that were up to no good. Startin makin trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight, and my mom got scared. She said you movin with your auntie and uncle in belair. 207.188.194.146 (talk) 13:33, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
British Vs. English
I have no problem with Stevens being listed as British instead of English, however, the categories like "English singers", etc should stay. Removing them without replacing them with an equivalent is tantamount to vandalism. I checked several other articles that pretty much jive with the categories that were originally placed here years ago and no one else had a problem with until a few days ago. Amy Winehouse was born in Southgate, London (same as Stevens) and she is listed as an "English singer". Same goes for Natasha Bedingfield (born in London), Kim Wilde (Chiswick, West London), etc, etc. Since there doesn't appear to be any "British singers" categories, English is gonna have to suffice unless someone wants to create a whole slew of new categories because they don't agree with the wording and don't agree with the assessment that if one is born in London or a suburb of London, one is not English. Unless a valid argument is presented as to why these categories are (no pun) categorically wrong, the categories should stay. If they're removed, I'll be glad to open an RfC to get some more eyes on what seems to be a big deal on this article only. Pinkadelica (talk) 04:10, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Longtime boyfriend
Something doesn't add up in the Personal life section of the article. The first sentence says that she became engaged to "longtime boyfriend" Jeremy Edwards on February 14, 2002. The second sentence says that they split up in early 2004 after "over three years" of dating. That would mean that they started dating in late 2000 or early 2001. This in turn means that Edwards was Stevens' boyfriend for about a year to a year and a half when they became engaged. I don't think this is long enough to call him a "longtime boyfriend".
