Felon is a 2008 drama film about a family man who ends up in state prison after he kills an intruder. The film was written and directed by Ric Roman Waugh, and stars Stephen Dorff, Val Kilmer, and Harold Perrineau. The story is based on events that took place in the 1990s at the notorious California State Prison, Corcoran[2].

Plot

Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) a loving family man, has his home invaded months before him and his fiance are set to be married. Wade, in an act of self defense, attacked the burglar with a baseball bat and accidentally kills him. Wade is then arrested and sent to county prison. There other inmates start fights with him. After 96 days in county Wade's lawyer tells him that his best chance of early release is to plead no contest. Wade pleads no contest to an amended account of involuntary manslaughter and is sentenced to 3 years. Once in the jail Wade is forced to fight for his life in gladiator type fights, staged by the guards.

The film received positive reviews from critics. As of October 28, 2008, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 61% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 19 reviews.[3] Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 88 out of 100, based on 10 reviews — indicating good or above average reviews.[4] The film had a limited screening in the US.
