Azra Jafari

Ms. Azra Jafari became Afghanistan's first mayor in December 2008 when President Hamid Karzai named her mayor of Nili, the capital of Daykundi province. Jafari was previously an Afghan refugee in Iran and also worked for UNAMA, the United Nations' mission in Afghanistan.

Ms. Jafari is married and has a daughter born in 2004.
