Coco is the debut album by singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, which was released on July 17, 2007. The album debuted on the U.S. Billboard 200 at number five, selling about 51,000 copies in its first week.[1] As of December 13, 2008 the album has sold 1,822,068 copies in the U.S.[2] The album has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.[3] Colbie said at an interview for MTV Latin America that she chose the name 'Coco' for her album as it's the nickname her parents gave her, which then was adopted by her friends. Despite not having been released as a single yet, the track "Midnight Bottle" is featured on the Brazilian soap opera Três Irmãs soundtrack and is receiving considerable national airplay.[4]

Reception

Critical reviews of the album were mixed. Allmusic said "she sings about simple, everyday things in an unassuming manner, letting her melodies and girl-next-door charm carry the day".[5] Chuck Arnold (of People magazine) said that "although the midtempo tracks start to blend together, this California girl keeps the sun-kissed sounds coming."[6] Caryn Ganz (with Rolling Stone) said Caillat has "soulful swing, but over a dozen bland, sunny tunes, it's hard to pin her down."[7] Capri is the sole song written by only Caillat herself. It is featured in the movie Stephanie Daley
