Tomasz Mendelski
Tomasz Mendelski (born May 21, 1981 in Olsztyn) is a Polish flatwater canoer. Mendelski has represented Poland in both the K1 200 m and 500 m but specialises in the individual 200 m kayak sprint, the shortest race-distance. At the world championships he finished 6th (2001), 4th (2002) and 6th (2003) before finally making the podium at the 2005 worlds in Zagreb, Croatia, where he won the silver medal.
He also won the bronze medal at the 2004 European Championships in Poznań, Poland, finishing just in front of Spain's Jovino González.
Unfortunately for Mendelski there are no 200 m races at the Olympics. As a junior he won two K4 silver medals at the 1999 World Junior Championships in Zagreb (500 m and 1000 m). In the senior Poland four-man (K4) 1000 m kayak crew Mendelski has won two European bronze medals (2004 and 2005). At the 2004 Olympics however they had to settle for eighth place in the final.
His most recent success came at the 2006 World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, where he won a silver medal in the K4 1000 m. In the K1 200 m, however, he was surprisingly eliminated in the semi-final.
