Shih-Ching was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. After getting her Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies, she came to New York to get her Master's degree in Media Studies at The New School. It was at The New School where she met Sean Baker. Together they worked on DVD production for Baker's first feature "Four Letter Words" and a behind-the-scenes featurette for the Sundance selection "Acts of Worship" before co-creating the feature "Take Out."

Currently she is working with Baker on their second co-helmer "Left-handed Girl" which will be shot in Taiwan.
