Quattro and 4motion (previously known as syncro) are two very different systems - one is longitudinal, the other transverse. Merging is not suitable.

Volkswagen AG's marketing has confused this issue by applying the label "quattro" to the 4wd models of Audi TT, even though they use a 4motion drive train.
