UK
Wouldn't it be worth mentioning their mainstream popularity and press attention in the UK? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.185.144.123 (talk) 20:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
No. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.190.253.144 (talk) 13:01, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Alias
The band name is sometimes written Goxxip - can that be aliased to this page? xx little anna 17:44, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's been done. [1] Wwwhatsup 23:40, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- The alias "Gssp" has a "citation needed" sign; are the title and sleeve of the "GSSP RMX" EP not enough? (Though it could be argued that "Gssp" is just hip typography, and doesn't really constitute a variation on "Gossip")84.198.246.199 (talk) 05:00, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Arkansas/Washington
also, how can they be a band from arkansas when they formed in washington? does this confuse anyone else? xx little anna 17:44, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Easily. Snow Patrol are a band from Northern Ireland but formed in Scotland cos that's where the Northern Irish members met. I think Beth and Brace were born in Arkanas but moved to Seattle and formed a band. Easy :) Lone Architect 21:12 9th November 2006 GMT
- but hannah isn't from arkansas. that's not very fair to her. not easy.xx little anna 23:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
So, that mean's they're not really an Arkansas band. 209.136.161.135 (talk) 19:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
The Gossip vs Gossip
Aren't they called just Gossip (no "The", like Pixies) as per the Standing in the Way of Control cover? [2]
chocolateboy 22:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- They're sometimes referred to as just 'Gossip', but more often it seems to be 'The Gossip'. It's confusing...
- I cleaned up the article a bit, and I added "The" throughout only to create uniformity with the title of this article. If the band's name is indeed just "Gossip" then the article itself should be moved back to "Gossip (band)". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ericorbit (talk • contribs) 23:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC).
- The article has been renamed back to "Gossip (band)". All the other stuff should be changed back to just "Gossip", right?Eperdermic (talk) 00:56, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Cleaned up a bit
Did some substantial clean up work on Gossip related articles including creating 10 new articles, and adding the images i could find, and creating an template for the bottom of each article. King nothing 20:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Skins
they've had a lot of sucess in the uk recently with 'standing in the way of controll' featuring on the promotions for E4's Skins
- Sure, this is a factor, but they were getting a lot of press anyway since Beth Ditto was rated by NME. Rogwan 16:20, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
So-called controversy
What does being "open about her weight" entail, exactly? I mean, sexuality, fine. But isn't one's weight something one doesn't have much choice about being open about? It's not like being overweight (unlike sexual preference) is something one can keep in the closet... Does the statement mean that the singer is always talking about her weight? Or perhaps that the band is controversial for having an overweight lead singer? I don't know, I just found it an odd assertion. Since I am unfamiliar with the band, I have no idea what it means, so perhaps it could be addressed more clearly. Lazylisa 21:39, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I think it means she's not ashamed of it. It's not a bad way of phrasing it. Wwwhatsup 22:17, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
But, what's the controversy exactly?
Controversy is that she is morbidly obese and setting a terrible example to other people (i.e. her fans) by claiming to be big and beautiful, etc. She is often talking about how she thinks people are getting too skinny and things, as if she is the paradigm of healthiness. I suppose it is a similar controversy to someone going on stage and shooting up on heroin/stabbing themselves/any other unhealthy act and then telling people that they are normal and more people should feel free to let themselves balloon up to the size of a small house. greg 18:24, 04 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's down right harsh and brutal, greg. I suggest you either change your tone or go somewhere else, cause Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a forum. If you want to badmouth another, go somewhere else. --Soetermans | is listening | what he'd do now? 19:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Why Merge?
- Oppose. This doesn't need merged Ms. Ditto is a figure in her own right, with plenty to warrant an entry of her own. Also, her public comments and "out" life do not necessarily represent the attitudes of her band-mates. Runrik Y. 129.98.206.72 15:05, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. I disagree with the merge as well. Drewcifer3000 22:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. I disagree with the merge for the same reasons as the first comment sbove. Jam
- Oppose. Merging would be stupid, and only have to be reversed. Wwwhatsup 22:10, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. Exploding Boy 05:43, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. no need to merge. --Barryob Vigeur de dessus 18:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. This has come up before with other bands/members, and is usually unnecessary, as it is here. -- Jayunderscorezero 00:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
The definite article
What do we think about dropping 'The' from the band's name throughout the article, and just adding formerly known as The Gossip to the first line? Wwwhatsup 22:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh and, as pointed out above, the page would have to be moved. It does seem that the band have dropped the The. Wwwhatsup 22:18, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'd dropped it...if I knew how. Icthyos 23:54, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Copyrighted images
According to fair use guidelines use of copyrighted images in galleries doesn't fall under fair use. I've gone ahead and put all the information sans images into tables as a quick fix. Since I'm not a regular editor on this page I don't expect these to remain the way I left them. I don't think they look especially great, but I'll leave it to more knowledgeable editors to decide what works best for the article. Happy editing. --Zytsef 19:31, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Gossip bandlogo.PNG
Image:Gossip bandlogo.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page.
