Doctor Neo Cortex
Doctor Neo Cortex is a video game character, and very often a boss, from the Crash Bandicoot series. Cortex's appearance and personality is often viewed as stereotypical and cartoonish. He is a mad scientist bent on world domination.
Overview
Cortex has experimented biologically altering animals into human-like minions and enforcers. Crash himself was one of the earlier "failed" attempts at this. He has also been known to work with fellow evil scientists such as Dr. N. Gin, Dr. Nefarious Tropy and Dr. Nitrus Brio, who betrayed Cortex in the second game and mysteriously ended up back on his team in Crash Bash.
In the first two games his motives for this are left unexplained, and generally they were never questioned in the games by the fans; however in the third game it is revealed that Cortex was working under the orders of the sentient mask Uka Uka, the evil twin of Crash's Aku Aku.
Cortex usually appears as a final boss or playable character in the Crash Bandicoot series.

Continuity and confusion
There are some slightly confusing points in the life of Dr. Cortex. These include:
- How he was able to escape from the time void after Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
- Why Dr. N. Brio betrayed him in Crash Bandicoot 2 and then suddenly reappears by his side in Crash Bash, without explanation.
