Crawdaunt (シザリガー in Japanese, Colhomar in French, ??? in German) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. It is a large lobster-like Pokémon of the Water and Dark dual-type. It is #342 in the National Pokédex. It is the evolved form of Corphish and can be only be obtained by evolving Corphish through level-up.

The name "Crawdaunt" is a conjunction of "crawdad", an alternate name for a crawfish, and "daunt," which means "to discourage".

It was originally believed that its name would be "Lobstar" due to its lobster-like appearance and the star-shape on its forehead.

Biology

Crawdaunt is a violent Pokémon, it challenges other living things to battle at any opportunity. Crawdaunt inhabit entire ponds by themselves, as other Pokémon refuse to live with them.

It will shed its shell often, leaving it vulnerable while its new shell is still soft. Crawdaunt must burrow itself into the bottom of a pond to avoid attacks from Pokémon that want to reinhabit their pond.

Its pincers are very thick and powerful. They are scarred from countless battles of the past which Crawdaunt partook in. When battling, it flails its claws in a frenzy.

Pokémon breeders consider Crawdaunt to be one of the hardest Pokémon to raise, as it will try to battle humans too.

In the video games

Crawdaunt is only available by evolving Corphish at level 30. Corphish is only available in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald.

Crawdaunt has both high Attack and Special Attack, the highest being its Attack. Being a Water and Dark-type Pokémon gives it access to several special-type attacks. Still, it can learn Swords Dance and is usually given physical-attacks such as Aerial Ace and Sludge Bomb.

In the animé

Crawdaunt has had anime appearances as one of the Pokémon used by Team Aqua members, in edition to Mightyena and Walrein. Most episodes with Team Aqua has had Crawdaunt appear, but it's official debut was in the episode "On a Wingull and a Prayer".

In other properties

In the card game

Crawdaunt has made several appearances in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It appears in the following sets:

  • EX Dragon (2 cards) (One of these cards suggests that Crawdaunt secretes poison in its claws)
  • EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (as Team Aqua's Crawdaunt) (2 cards)
  • EX Deoxys
