Miltank (ミルタンク/Mirutanku in Japanese, Miltank in German and Ecremeuh in French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise.
Name Origin
Miltank's name is derived from the words milk and tank.
Appearance
Miltank resembles a bipedal cow. Its body is pink, with black areas around its face and back. It has a tail ending in a small black globe, wide ears and two small horns on its head. Its yellow underbelly has four udders.
Biology
Miltank is notable mainly thanks to the milk it can provide, which is widely ragarded in the Pokémon world as tasty and highly nutritious, especially during a post-gestation period. Miltank's milk and its derivatives, such as yogurt, are popular with children and adults and can even be used as a form of natural medicine for the sick and weary.
Miltank is one of the few Pokémon species whose members are exclusively female, meaning that breeding a Miltank will always result in a female baby Miltank. In this respect, Miltank is meant to be the counterpart of Tauros.
In the video games
Miltank is relatively scarce. In Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, it can be found in Routes 38 and 39. These games also feature a Miltank farm between Ecruteak City and Olivine City. In Pokémon Colosseum, Miltank is a Shadow Pokémon and can be Snagged in the Realgam Tower Colosseum. In Pokémon Emerald, Miltank is available in the Safari Zone.
In most of the Pokémon games, Miltank's milk (as the MooMoo Milk item) can be used to restore 100 Hit Points of a Pokémon.
Miltank has impressive stats, being above average in all attributes except special attack, which given Miltank's normal type is irrelevant. It can also learn a wide range of powerful physical attacks of various types, such as Body Slam, Earthquake, Rollout, and Iron Tail. However, its knowledge of the recovery techniques Milk Drink and Heal Bell, which can help other Pokémon in the player's team, makes it a good choice for a supporting Pokémon as well as a physical attacker.
In the animé
Miltank, like in the video games, is used by Gym Leader Whitney in episodes #160 (A Goldenrod opportunity) and #161 (A Dairy Tale Ending) in two battles against Ash's Pokémon, winning the first fight and losing the rematch. Another one has appeared in episode #209 (Got Miltank?) as the keeper of a Pokémon-only sanctuary deep inside a desert.
