The Spirit of Apollo is the Anti-Records debut album by DJ collaborative group N.A.S.A..
The 18-track album was released February 17, 2009 after five years in the making. It is rooted in Brazilian funk but features more than three-dozen guest stars, including several mainstays of the U.S. rock and hip-hop scenes. The list of eclectic collaborations includes new-waver David Byrne jamming with rap legend Chuck D ("Money"); M.I.A. and Santogold teaming with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ("Whachadoin?"); and Kanye West and Lykke Li ("Gifted"). ODB also makes a posthumous appearance along with other Wu Tang Clan members, RZA and Ghostface Killah. John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers also appears.
N.A.S.A. recruited a number of high-profile street artists for the album's release. The album features interchangeable cover art by Sage Vaughan, Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Marcel Dzama, and The Date Farmers,[1] and animated videos for the first two singles feature work by Fairey and Splunny.
