Whitney Eve Port (born March 4, 1985[1] is an American television show personality. She is most famous for being a part of the MTV reality television series The Hills[2] and her own show, The City. She is a former fashion contributor for Teen Vogue.

Biography

Early life

Port was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Jeffery and Vicki Lyn Port (née Woskoff). She is the second youngest of five brothers and sisters. Her father, Jeff, is the owner of a fashion company called Swarm.[3]

Education

Port attended Warner Avenue Elementary school and was the school President in the 5th grade, while her sister Paige was school Secretary that same year. She then went to Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences for middle school and high school.

In 2007, Port graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in gender studies, where she roomed with Christina Schuller, former Laguna Beach cast member and friend of Lauren Conrad. According to Port herself, she didn't join a sorority[4].

Personal life

As of 2007, Port's parents, her brother, Ryan, her sisters, Paige, Jade and Ashley, also live in Los Angeles, California.[5]

Port, who is by her own admission not as comfortable with the spotlight as her other costars, explained her decision not to move in with Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge in season three of The Hills: "I prefer to keep some things private." However, this statement contradicts the fact that MTV produced a spin off from The Hills to her own show titled The City.[6]

Fashion career

Women's Wear Daily and W (2005)

Before working at Teen Vogue, Port was an intern for Women's Wear Daily magazine for two summers. She also interned at W magazine as well.

Teen Vogue (2005–2007)

From 2005–2007, Port was an intern with Conrad. The final episode of season two showed Port interviewing at Vogue headquarters in New York for the position of "Fashion Contributor" at Teen Vogue. The episode dramatized the competition between Port and another young woman, Emily Weiss, who had previously appeared in season two as an intern visiting from New York. It was revealed in the season three premiere that Port was awarded the job, and was employed by Teen Vogue in Los Angeles

The Peoples Revolution (2007–2008)

Port left Teen Vogue in 2007 for The Peoples Revolution, a PR firm heavily involved in the fashion world. Owned by Kelly Cutrone, The Peoples Revolution has offices in New York, Los Angeles and Paris. Conrad was seen in season 3 episode 24 of The Hills assisting Port at L.A. Fashion week, and at the end of the episode was offered, and accepted, a position at The Peoples Revolution alongside Port.

Diane von Furstenberg (2008-Present)

Port was awarded an interview with fashion label Diane von Furstenberg for her efforts in The Peoples Revolution by Kelly Cutrone. She was accepted for the job and has moved to New York City. Her job with DVF will be featured extensively on her new reality show The City.

Model

In episode six of the first season, Port had her first experience as a runway model. She walked in a DKNY Jeans show at Los Angeles Fashion Week.[2]

Port again plays the role of model in episode eleven, when she appears on a Good Morning America segment with André Leon Talley the editor-at-large of Vogue magazine. When modeling Hilary Swank's dress from the 2005 Academy Awards, Port tripped during the live televised segment, but composed herself after the slip. Lisa Love, a Teen Vogue editor and Port's supervisor, praised her for handling the incident with class and grace under fire.[5]

Clothing line

In March 2008, Port debuted her clothing line of cocktail and partywear called Eve & A.

Television career

Port has been featured on The Hills. For the most part she appears in the context of her internship at Teen Vogue. Port has said specifically in two episodes of the MTV Canada Aftershow that she prefers to leave her personal life, including her year-long relationship, unaired.

The Hills

At the end of The Hills season one, Teen Vogue offered Conrad the opportunity to spend the summer of 2006 working in Paris, France.[2] When Conrad chose not to take the job, Port went to Paris in her place.[5]

On the second season of The Hills, Port appeared somewhat more frequently outside the workplace setting. In episode five, Conrad visited Port at her parents' home where she was recuperating from surgery after having her wisdom teeth removed. In another episode, Conrad and Patridge attended Whitney's softball game.[5]

Episode eight of season two featured Port's younger sister Jade as a model in a Teen Vogue fashion photo shoot.

In season three of The Hills, Port dated new men, and dealt with Conrad's drama. She soon stepped out on her two feet and left Teen Vogue, to The People's Revolution, soon Conrad was offered her same job title and now they once again work together.[7]

The City

After months of speculation it has been confirmed that Port will receive her own spin-off from The Hills entitled The City.[8] The series will center around Port as she moves to New York City to work for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[9][8] The series debuted December 29, 2008 on MTV.

Other appearances

Port also appeared on a 2008 episode of the HBO series Entourage as herself.

From mid-2009 Whitney will be doing shows for Global Radio's Hit Music Network and Bauer Radio.
