Not so hard?

This story is given as an example of "Hard Science Fiction", but I find a small flaw in the story according to the plot summary...

(diameter of the moon * pi) / (29.5 hours) = 102.791018 m / s

which is hardly a walking pace... is this really an example of "Foam Science Fiction"?
