The Parkman Bandstand

The Parkman Bandstand is a familiar landmark located on the eastern side of Boston Common. It was built in 1912 following the 1908 death of George F. Parkman. The monument was erected in honor of his 5 million dollar donation for the upkeep of the parks of Boston. In 1996 the bandstand was restored and is used today for concerts, rallies, and speeches. Recent notable gatherings include the Boston Freedom Rally and a 2007 Presidential Primary rally in which Barak Obama and Deval Patrick gave speeches from the bandstand.
