Shane Keough
Shane Keough (born September 11, 1986) is a minor league outfielder in the Oakland Athletics farm system. Keough appeared in the Bravo reality show The Real Housewives of Orange County, in which his mother, Jeana Keough, was one of the featured "housewives."
Biography
Keough is the oldest child of Matt Keough, a former pitcher for the Oakland A's and current executive with the team and Jeana Keough, a former model, actress and Playboy Playmate who is now a realtor for RE/MAX in Coto de Caza, California. He has a younger sister Kara, who attended the University of California at Berkeley for one semester and also acts and models, and a younger brother, Colton. Keough drew criticism by embarrassing himself and his family by telling his mom he wanted to "hit her in the head with a baseball bat" when she traveled 2,000 miles to watch him play in the Chicago area. The disturbing lack of respect continued on the Real Housewives show for several minutes, with Keough suggesting that he would "pull the plug" immediately if his mother were to be on life support, resulting in many complaints to the show and the Kane County Cougars. His mother later apologized for her son, adding that Shane was unhappy with the "editing process." He remains a gay idol and source of inspiration to many in the gay community due to his on going struggle to play professional baseball and his obvious homosexuality.
Career
Unfortunately Keough is still trying to make a name for himself. Scouts score Keough as having "almost non-existant" hitting skills with no power but with some potential for speed in the outfield. Keough entered the Major League Baseball Draft in 2005 and was surprisingly drafted by the Oakland A's in the 36th round as a draft-and-follow[1][2] pick. Keough attended DeVry University[3] in Arizona to gain more playing time and hopefully attract more attention from the scouts. He was signed by the A's in June, 2006. In the fall of 2006, he played outfield for the A's entry in the Arizona Fall League. Keough played for the Vancouver Canadians single A Short Season Baseball team as an outfielder in 2007 and played for the single A Kane County Cougars in 2008.
Besides Shane's father, his grandfather Marty and great-uncle Joe have both played in the major leagues. It is obvious to everyone but Shane that he will never follow in their footsteps.
