Minna Planer (5 September 1809 - 25 January 1866) was a German actress and the first wife of composer Richard Wagner.[1] She had no children with him. They married in 1836. While living in Magdeburg, Wagner built up great debts resulting in the need to move regularly.[2] At times, she was the provider of the couple making appearences in the local theatres.[3] Wagner frequently had liasons with other women including Mathilde Wesendonck and Cosima von Bulow, the daughter of Franz Liszt. Planer died in 1866 in Dresden while Wagner was living in Venice.
