Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani was the author of the Fath al-Bari, the most valued Sunni commentary of Sahi Bukhari.

He deemed the leader of the troops that killed Husain ibn Ali, Umar ibn Sa'ad, to be trustworthy.

He followed the Shafi'i madhab.
