Sitecore company based in Copenhagen, Denmark which develops Sitcore CMS and Sitcore Express. The company was founded in 2001 by five fellow technical professionals[1]. Sitecore has offices and representatives that cover over 50 counties around the world.
Products
Sitecore is known for its Web Content Management System, currently in version 6, which was released was on June 30, 2008[2]. Sitecore also offers Intranet Portal Software and Sitecore Foundry for management of multiple affiliate websites. Additional modules include a SharePoint Connecter Module, SEO Module, Forum Module, Newsletter Module, and StatCenter Module.
A free version of Sitecore CMS with limited licensing[3] is available as Sitecore Xpress.
Content Management Framework
Sitecore CMS, Sitecore's primary product is also a full-featured, content-driven Content Management Framework with separation of content and presentation. Featuring a simple but powerful concept of unified structural elements called Content Items, the system can be used for various content delivery scenarios with several output formats including, but not limited to, HTML,PDF, Flash / Flex and Silverlight.
Relation to Microsoft SharePoint
Sitecore has been compared to Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft's primary web-based Content Management System and a product of the Microsoft Office platform. Although there are certain areas where the features of both products overlap, both systems aim at different fields of application. Whereas Microsoft SharePoint is typically used in intranet collaboration scenarios[4], Sitecore is regularily employed to managing both public and internal web content.
Technology
For many customers a main strength of Sitecore, which is built on Microsoft .NET 3.5 technology, is the ability to deliver personalized content to visitors dynamically[5], but has also been awarded for its extreme flexibility and usability.

Over 1,600 organizations use Sitecore software, including Microsoft, Sara Lee, Siemens, Toshiba, Omni Hotels, Computer Associates, and WebTrends. The Sitecore customer, Atlanta Falcons NFL team, won the 2007 InfoWorld 100 Project of the Year award[6] for their website. Sitecore customer Ball State University, which relaunched over 220 websites with Sitecore CMS, won several notable awards including Best Overall Site of the Year[7].
Sitecore has over 300 certified implementation partners around the world. Sitecore software is sold across industry verticals, including education, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, non-profit, service, technology, travel, entertainment, and others.
Sitecore is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and was named Microsoft ISV Partner of the year in 2004[8].
