[1] Exmouth Community College is a very funny face school with some scraped cheese on the roof.comprehensive school in Exmouth, Devon, England. The college provides secondary education and courses for the community. It is the only such college/school in the town of Exmouth. The college has specialist status in Maths and Computing and is equipped with 900 plus workstations many of which are in one of the 12 IT suites. The current principal is Mr A K Alexander. The college has a website that is updated daily which has information on forthcomming events as well as a parents' guide and news and photo archive. The web site includes the college on-line learning platform.
The school has two sites, on Gipsy Lane and Green Close, connected by a newly-built bridge and pathway. The Green Close site is primarily for the 'lower school' (years 7-9) while the Gipsy Lane site caters for the 'upper school' (years 10-11) and sixth form (post-16). Both sites have undergone rapid development in the last ten years, with the Turner Building (1997) and Pauline Hitchings Building (2005) opening on the Green Close site and Judith Telfer Centre on the Gipsy Lane site (1997). The school has the largest number of students in East Devon (2,327 pupils including 6th form).
Subjects offered
The college offers a wide variety of subjects to suit all of its students. The most recent OFSTED inspection graded the college curriculum as 'outstanding' and the college as a whole as " Good". The PE Dept is graded "Outstanding" As well as offering the core curriculum with a choice between academic and vocational subjects, the college also offers an alternative curriculum, focusing entirely on workplace skills. The options available at KS 4 are extensive. The College has Mathemetics and ICT as its specialist subjects.
The school has a wonderful lunch time league avaiable to all make year 10 and 11 students. Fixtures are held every lunchtime by the p.e teachers these events are orgainised by Mr Taylor.
Specialist status
The school has specialist status in Maths and ICT. The funding that has accompanied this status has ensured that classrooms are well equipped and that the number of IT suites for whole college and departmental use has expanded greatly. The college places special emphasis on improvement and progression and the status drives this ethos as it does the extensive community partnerships.
Uniform
In 2003 a new uniform was introduced replacing the old sweatshirts and polo shirts. The new uniform consists of jumper with the college crest and ties. Each year group have different ties, year 7 yellow, year 8 silver/white, year 9 green, year 10 blue, and year 11 purple. The colour of the stripes on the tie will remain with that student until he or she leaves the school. Therefore, the year 11 tie is next year's year 7 tie. Post 16 do not have to wear school uniform. The schools PE kit consists of a purple polo shirt with the school logo boys have to own a purple and black rugby shirt all students must have trainers and shorts for pe although black tracksuit bottoms are allowed. College teams wear special strips which are funded through sponsors and supporters of the college.
