The Silence of the Lambs (film)
1991 film in which a young FBI trainee is sent to question an imprisoned sociopath psychiatrist to get information on one of his former clients, who is abducting women and skinning them. Brilliantly directed by Jonathan Demme, the film features much subtle camera work and seems more profound with each viewing. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins both won Oscars (for their roles as Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, respectively); the film also won Oscars for screenplay, direction, and best picture. Based on the novel by Thomas Harris; this is actually the second book featuring Dr. Lecter: the first was Red Dragon, made into the film Manhunter by Michael Mann; the third was Hannibal, made into the film of the same name by Ridley Scott.
