Providence Place is a modern urban shopping mall in the central part ofProvidence, Rhode Island, near the state capitol and railroad station. The anchors stores are Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and Filene's and there is also a large cinema. The mall was instrumental into bringing people back to downcity Providence after many fled to the suburbs. It opened in 1999. A footbridge links the mall to a high-rise hotel.
