Lewis Holtby (born September 18, 1990 in Erkelenz) is a German football (soccer) player of English descent, who currently plays for Alemannia Aachen in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Career
At his first professional station Borussia Mönchengladbach Holtby was rejected because of reputed "physical deficits". He was said to be too slow and too small.[1]
Holtby has played since 2004 for Alemannia Aachen. He made his first professional appearance in the 2007/08 when he was appointed by caretaker manager Jörg Schmadtke to the squad and played against FC St. Pauli.
Meanwhile Lewis Holtby is an important part of the Team of Alemannia Aachen. At the beginning of season 08/09 he attracted attention because of some ingenious assists.
In the 2nd Bundesliga he scored his first goal for Alemannia Aachen on 5 December against TSV 1860 München. On 15 February he scored his first brace at 6-2 home victory against 1. FC Nuremberg. At this match he presented a brilliant performance.
Personal Life
His father Chris Holtby, is an English Liverpool-born former soldier[2] who was based at the RAF Airbase in Mönchengladbach (now the site of Borussia Mönchengladbach's stadium Borussia Park) and his mother is from Germany. Lewis, like his father is a fan of Everton FC and has said it will be a dream come true to play for them.[3]
Lewis said: “My father was born in England and was an Everton fan since the age of five. He immediately infected me with the Everton bug! Since then I have been Everton fan and have always followed their games.”[4]
International
Holtby was capped by Heiko Herrlich to play for the under 18 national team of Germany. He also was capped to play for the German U-19 team in September. He scored his first international goal on 11 October against Lithuania at 5-0 victory. [5]
Holtby affirmed that he will definitely play for the German national team.[6]
