Birdlip is a small village in Gloucestershire, England[1], within The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It lies six miles south of Cheltenham and eight miles north east of Gloucester.[2]
Birdlip is located on The Cotswold Way, a National Trail running along the edge of The Cotswolds AONB. The view from Barrow Wake viewpoint in the village takes in a great deal of the Vale of Gloucester.[3]
Birdlip is best known for the discovery of some fine pre-Roman bronze art, including the famous Birdlip Mirror, which dates from around 50AD.[4]
Although the village was once on the main Gloucester to Cirencester road, the turnpiking of the A417 has moved it off the main route, and it is now home only to approximately 150 people, a primary school and an inn, the Royal George Hotel.
