'Shigeto Kawahara is a phonologist and currently is an assistant professor at Rutgers University. He was awarded his Ph.D. (Linguistics) from University of Massachusetts.

His intense background in theoretical phonology gives strong basis and influences to his current studies of phonetics, whereby he pursues the articuratory and auditory correlates for the emergence of phonological constraints[1].
