Peter Guidi
Biography
Peter Guidi (born 1949) is a jazz saxophonist and jazz flutist whose main instruments are flute, alto and bass flute, alto and soprano saxophones. Born in Scotland of Italian parents Peter Guidi is a self-taught musician. He began his musical career in Italy where he went on to play with many leading jazz musicians and performed in major Jazz Festivals including Umbria Jazz, the Aosta Jazz Festival, the Jazz Festival of Pescara and the Padova Porsche Jazz Festival. Since moving to Holland he has performed several times at the North Sea Jazz Festival with both his quartet and big band. He is now head of the jazz department of the Amsterdam Muziekschool where he leads several bands for children and young people, including the Junior Swing, Jazz Juniors, Jazz Generation, Jazz Focus big band and Jazz Mania Big Band. He was also instrumental in founding the Junior Jazz College, a collaboration between the Muziekschool Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Jazz Conservatory. In 20 years of teaching his bands have accumulated a total of 58 prizes in national and international competitions. He is also author of a flute teaching method: The Jazz Flute.
