"Boom Boom Pow"
Song

"Boom Boom Pow" is a song by the Black Eyed Peas released as the lead single from their upcoming album The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies). All band members have had their voices auto-tuned in the song. The single sold 465,000 digital downloads in its first week of release, the third largest number of download-sales in a single-week overall, and the largest single-week and debut download totals by a group in the history of digital-download sales tracking. Fueled by strong digital sales and heavy radio airplay, the song climbed 39 places to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its 4th week on the chart, making it the band's first number-one single in the U.S. [3] In addition the single has been the most downloaded song on iTunes for over two weeks. [4] as well as reaching #1 on the Canadian Hot 100.

Release

"Boom Boom Pow" was stated as a single, and released to mainstream radio on March 10th. "Boom Boom Pow" was released officially on iTunes in the US on March 30, 2009.

Reception

Billboard gave the song a positive review, stating that the song "shows the Black Eyed Peas in fine form" and that it was "a knockout".[5]

Song references

"Boom Boom Pow" has no prevalent song samples, but features a reference to Daft Punk's 2001 single, "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", sang by apl.de.ap as "harder, faster, better, stronger".

Music video

Fergie had stated at an interview on The Insider that the music video would be shooting the week of March 8, 2009.[6] Apl.de.ap confimed that they started filming it on March 9.[7]

The making of the video was released by MTV on April 8.[8].

In interview gave to MTV, was said that "... the concept of the video is the Peas' birth into the digital afterlife," Fergie said. "So the transformation is us going into a sort of birth or cocoon and coming out the other end as forms of energy. It's a parallel to the music industry. Now everything is downloaded."

Will.I.Am said the video was inspired by how digital the world has become and hopes the video portrays "what it would be like if we were actually in the computer, if art was fused in it," he said. "[It's] analog life from a digital perspective becoming technology."[9]

The music video was directed by Mathew Cullen. It was rumored that it would be released on April 13,[10] along with the new Black Eyed Peas Channel on Dipdive. Will.i.am disagreed to these claims and said the video would be out very soon.[11]
