Ashes to Ashes is a British television drama series and a spin off from Life on Mars, produced by Kudos Film & Television for BBC Wales. The transmission dates given below refer to the original UK showings on BBC One.

Series 1 (2008)

The first series of the show sees 21st Century detective, Alex Drake investigating the case of Sam Tyler and his apparent suicide (Following the conclusion of the parent show - Life On Mars). While investigating his death, Alex finds herself in the hands of a gunman and after being shot appears to wake up in 1981, where she is met by Gene Hunt, Ray Carling and Chris Skelton - the detectives that Tyler previously worked with in 1973 during the events of Life On Mars. She then remains stuck there with no apparent way back home despite numerous attempts.

Series 2 (2009)

The second series was confirmed to be in production in early 2008.[1] This series takes place in 1982, rather than 1981, and is the fourth British series overall in the Life On Mars franchise.[2] The first episode of the new series aired on 20 April[3] and was watched by 7.01 million viewers. [4] In the US, it is airing on BBC America just under 2 weeks after the UK airing.
