Kuizu $ Mirionea (クイズ$ミリオネア, English translation: Quiz $ Millionaire), also known as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? by the show's logo, is a Japanese game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show is hosted by Mino Monta.

The main goal of the game is to win 10 million yen by answering 15 multiple-choice questions correctly. There are three lifelines - Fifty Fifty (フィフティ・フィフティ), Phone A Friend (テレフォン, phone to four supporters who are in one place) and Ask The Audience (オーディエンス). クイズ$ミリオネア is broadcast from 20 April, 2000 to today (regularly to March 29, 2007). It is shown on the Japanese TV station Fuji TV.

Whenever a contestant go the fifth question correct, he is guaranteed ¥100,000. When a contestant got the tenth question correct, he was guaranteed ¥1,000,000. There have been about 35 contestants who won the grand prize (18 celebrities, 5 kids), for list - see Winners. The first contestant on the show (a woman) won ¥1,000,000.

This version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? is the only version with a narrator (木村 匡也, Kyoya Kimura)

Broadcasting

The show was broadcasted regularly from 20 April, 2000 to 29 March, 2007. But many spinoffs have been broadcasted:

  • 2001 Special
  • 2002 Special
  • Kids Edition
  • Elementary School Tournament
  • Super Millionaire
  • Celebrity Edition
  • Couples Edition
  • Pay Debt Edition

Super Millionaire

Super Millionaire is a spinoff of クイズ$ミリオネア. The grand prize is also 10 million yen (earlier 20 million yen), but there are only 10 questions to get it. There are no guaranteed sums. Contestant can't walk away on last 2 questions, but they can walk away before the host asks the question. Contestants can't use the Fifty-Fifty after the first 5 questions, because after 5 questions there are only 2 choices for each question. The first contestant on the show was Tetsuya Takeda (武田鉄矢). He answered the 7th question for ¥2,500,000 incorrectly, so he lost everything.
