Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, Lobster Johnson and the B.P.R.D. are comic book creations by Mike Mignola and usually published by Dark Horse Comics that have been featured in numerous mini-series, one-shots, back-up features, cross-overs and guest appearances.

Hellboy

The Kabandha

This story by Mike Mignola, Jai Nitz and Philip Reed with art by Zach Howard was originally published as a suppliment to the Steve Jackson Games Hellboy Sourcebook and Role Playing Game (August 31, 2002).

In the story Hellboy and Agent Orson Gaines, formerly of the S.A.S., travel to Dehli, India in 1990 to seek yogi Bankimchandra for assistance defeating a demon that has been killing people and devouring holy cattle.

The Mole

This story by Mike Mignola with art by Duncan Fegredo was originally published as the main feature in Hellboy: The Mole and Other Stories, along with Out of Reach and Bishop Olek's Devil as well as a sketch by Matt Groenig which reimagines the Futurama cast as Hellboy and the members of the B.P.R.D., for Free Comic Book Day 2008 and was available in two varient covers.

In the story Hellboy is in England engaged in a spectral game of cards with Harry H. Middleton, Sir Albert Lindsay and Lady Celia Radford two weeks before the events of Darkness Calls when a demon erupts from a mole on his hand and takes possession of the Right Hand of Doom from him.

They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships

This story by Mike Mignol and Joshua Dysart with art by Jason Shawn Alexander was originally published by Dark Horse Comics and Konami in Hellboy: They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships (August 2007) as a promotion for the Hellboy: Science of Evil video game and was distributed at 2007 New York Comic-Con.

In the story Hellboy and Sapien travel to Ocracoke Island, North Carolina in 1986 with local historian Earl Reed in pursuit of the skull of Blackbeard, which has been stolen by a fake psychic calling himself Marc the Magnificent, who intends to use it to resurrect the legendary pirate and reclaim his long lost buried treasure.

B.P.R.D.

Born Again

This story by John Arcudi and Guy Davis was originally published by Dark Horse Comics/Wizard Press as the back-up story in Hellboy Premiere Edition (March 2004), along with The Penanggalan, as a promotional for Wizard.[1]

In the story Sapien, Sherman, Kraus and Roger investigate a series of deaths in the Chicago suburb of Caulfield that lead them to some monstrous skeletal remains. Kraus’s attempt to summon the creature’s spirit brings it back to life and it turns on them seeking vengeance against Shonchin the aboriginal shaman who imprisoned him. Sherman is able to defeat it with fire and rescue Kraus’s ectoplasm.

Out of Reach

This story by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi with art by Guy Davis was originally published as a backup feature in Hellboy: The Mole and Other Stories, along with The Mole and Bishop Olek's Devil, for Free Comic Book Day 2008 and was available in two varient covers.
