W. Don Cornwell

W. Don Cornwell is CEO, Chairman, and co-founder of Granite Broadcasting (1988-).

Granite declared bankruptcy in December 2006 and while negotiating on behalf of Granite stockholders Cornwell secured for himself among other things: (i) forgiveness of a $3.3 million loan from Granite, (ii) a $2.6 million “gross up” bonus payment, (iii) options to purchase 375,000 shares of reorganized Granite’s common stock, (iv) up to $400,000 of restricted shares of reorganized Granite’s common stock, and (v) certain releases and indemnities.[1]

He sits on the board of directors of Avon Products (since 2002)[2], Pfizer (since 1997)[3], Conde Nast Portfolio (since 1997)[4], the Wallace Foundation[5], the Jacob Javits Foundation, the Emma L. Bowen Foundation[6], and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New York[7].

Prior to founding Granite, Mr. Cornwell served as a vice president of Goldman Sachs (1976 to 1988). He was formerly on the board of directors for CVS (1994-2005?)[8], the National Association of Broadcasters, the Hershey Trust Company and Milton Hershey School(-2002)[9], the New York University Medical Center[10], and chairman of Telecommunications Development Fund (1997)[11]. Former trustee of Occidental College, and Citizens Budget Commission (2001-2005)[12].

Cornwell received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Occidental College in 1969 and a Masters degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1971.

Born 1948, Cushing, OK. He grew up in Tacoma, WA. He is married to Saundra Williams-Cornwell and has two children - K. Don Cornwell and Samantha Cornwell.
