Acharya Bojendranath Seal College (earlier Victoria College) is an co-educational college situated in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. It was established in the year 1988 and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate education. The college is affiliated to University of North Bengal and accredited as B by NAAC.[1]
History
Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College was established in 1888 as Victoria College by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan to enhance the student capability in the Kingdom.[2] The first principal was J.D.Godley and the first Indian was Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal who remained in the post for eighteen long years from 1896 to 1913.[2] In 1950, when the Princely state of Cooch Behar was annexed to Union of India, the governance was passed to Government of West Bengal. It was earlier affiliated to Calcutta University and currently affiliated to University of North Bengal after the creation of the same. In 1970, it was renamed as Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College.[2] It is one of the few colleges under University of North Bengal to have postgraduate education.
