Free software?

The classification of the PE Builder as free software is disputable. Clauses 6 and 7 of the PE Builder License restrict commercial redistribution and the incorporation of the PE Builder into other projects, respectively. Also, nowhere in the license is modification permitted. Although Nu2 claims that the PE Builder is free software, it appears to more accurately fall under the category of either freeware or unmodifiable freely redistributable software.

In any case, I've changed the words "free software" in the BartPE article to "freeware" to more accurately reflect the terms under which the PE Builder is licensed.

The additions of 2005-11-18 reverted

Ok, I'm going to slash everything added today for the following reasons:

  • Most of it is POV and/or unencyclopedic. ("Very handy for...", "very suitable for...")
  • The screenshot is non-informative.
  • Some information is duplicated. ("Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE"..." duplicates "A user can create his own installation of BartPE using the installation disk of the operating system in question and the program PE Builder")

The change looks likes it's done in a rush and with much bias. I don't see that it adds anything other than technical details that are not needed for the article but instead clutter it up.

If anyone wants this infromation back, feel free to add it again... but this time, don't make it POV, envangelistic and/or in duplication of what is already here. Also don't bury the reader in technical details.

BartPE vs. WinPE

"BartPE has a graphical user interface. WinPE has a command line interface." Since when does WinPE have a command-line interface? It quite definitely has a GUI. I'm changing this. --rdude 07:31, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In response to BartPE's having a graphical user interface, BartPE's shell program is Nu2Menu, which serves the role of the Start Menu on a standard version of Windows. WinPE does indeed boot into a GUI mode, but the shell is CMD.EXE, the Windows command line interpreter. WinPE is mainly operated from command line, though it may be necessary to run GUI programs like Notepad, thus, its main interface is a command line. Rmsuperstar99 17:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WinPE is only available to Microsoft OEM Partners

WinPE 2.0 (Vista PE) is available to any and all customers by downloading the Windows AIK and Business Deployment Workbench. I am going to fix this. Rmsuperstar99 17:55, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bartpe is best choice for making your own window like oem editios. Norton ghost and Bartpe work together so good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.193.132.243 (talk) 06:54, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Live USB ?

The BartPE FAQ says that

booting from UFD is not always stable at the moment. ... Tricky stuff, maybe better support in future...

So mentioning the USB boot feature the same way as the CD boot is very misleading. --Xerces8 (talk) 12:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is this article supposed to be about?

Is it supposed to be about the differences between WinPE and BartPE or about BartPE? I came here looking for information about BartPE...
