Lisburn railway station serves the city of Lisburn in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The station was opened on 12 August 1839. It has recently been renovated, with a new waiting area on platform 1, new toilets and vending machines.[citation needed] In addition, on platforms 2 and 3, a coffee shop operates on weekday mornings, to accommodate commuters travelling towards Belfast.[citation needed] To make the station more accessible, lifts have been installed on each platform.[citation needed]
In addition to Lisburn being a stop off on the Bangor-Portadown line, platform 3 is used in peak times for an extra service - Lisburn to Great Victoria Street - and stops at all halts between the two. Platform 2 is used for the express, non-stop service. This means journey times between Lisburn and Great Victoria Street are reduced to only 11 minutes at peak times, which has attracted many more commuters than before. Despite the timetable stating the time between the two station non-stop as 11 minutes, some trains can achieve the journey in as little as 8 minutes; an average speed of around 60mph.[citation needed]
