Hawaii Public Radio, HPR for short, is a network of four non-commercial, listener-supported stations serving the state of Hawaii. The stations originate from the studios of The Hawaii Public Radio Plaza, located at 738 Kaheka Street, near the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu.
History/programming
HPR's KHPR signed on the air in Honolulu on November 13, 1981, and is the flagship station of the network, airing a diversified lineup of fine arts, classical music, and cultural programming. The two other stations in the lineup, KKUA in Wailuku and KANO in Hilo, serve as repeaters for KHPR. KIPO (which signed on in 1989) offers a News/Talk/Information/World Music and Jazz format. Hawaii Public Radio is the Hawaii affiliate of NPR.
