Komaravolu S. Chandrasekharan (born 21 November 1920)[1] is a famous mathematician from India and a founder faculty of School of Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). He works in number theory and summability.

Career

Chandrasekharan was with the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, U.S.A., and it was during that time, he was invited by Homi Bhabha to join the School of Mathematics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). Chandrasekharan persuaded many of the leading mathematicians of the world, to visit TIFR and deliver courses of lectures . They were L. Schwarz, C. L. Siegel and many more.

He left the Tata Institute in 1965 to go to the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich,[1] where he retired in 1988 and is now emeritus.[2][3]

Early life

Chandrasekharan did his schooling from Bapatla village in Guntur from Andhra Pradesh. He completed his M.A. in Mathematics from the Presidency College, Chennai and Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics, University of Madras in 1942; K. Ananda Rau was his advisor.

Chandrasekharan's Erdos number is two through R. P. Boas.

Awards

K. Chandrasekharan was given numerous achievements.
