It was announced that Desperate Housewives would return for a sixth season on April 23, 2009.
Cast
This is the first season not to feature Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) as part of the principal cast, having been with the show since its inception until May 17, 2009.
It is noted that the four protagonists - Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) - and the series' narrator, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), are all expected to return as regular castmembers next season given that they were contracted for the whole show's run. New Housewife Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany) is also expected to return, as she has been contracted for at least three seasons.
Kathryn Joosten is expected to either retain her recurring role as Karen McCluskey, join the principal cast, or join Lily Tomlin in a possible Desperate Housewives spin-off.[1][2]
Julie (Andrea Bowen) will be back. Karl (Richard Burgi) will be back for many episodes as Bree's romance with Karl continues.
Actress Maiara Walsh is joining the regular cast in the role of Ana Solis, Carlos Solis's teenage niece, who moves onto Wisteria Lane with the Solis family, and comes into conflict with Gabrielle.
Marc Cherry has stated that in the last five minutes of the season finale of season five a couple will be married. It is known from the season five finale that Mike was the groom, although it is not known whether Susan, Katherine or someone else is the bride.[3]
