Assembla is a collaborative project management service for open-source and commercial software. Their workspaces include project management software elements such as task management, issue tracking, subversion repositories and scrum meetings.[1] The service rents development applications to other companies online,[2] reducing the cost of software development.[3]
History
Assembla has been based in Needham, Massachusetts since 2003.[4] The company officially formed in 2005, headed by Andy Singleton, creator of PowerSteering Software,[5] using a distributed agile process to link employees from multiple locations.[6]

In March 2009, Assembla partnered with online workteam tool provider oDesk, providing users joint access to the companies' services.[7]
