Military OneSource

Military OneSource is an official program of the U.S. Department of Defense that acts as a resource to active duty, Reserve and National Guard military members and their families. The services are administered at no cost to military families through a call center as well as online.

Mission

Military OneSource is authorized by the U.S. Department of Defense to provide round-the-clock assistance and resources at no cost to U.S. military personnel and families all across the globe.

History

Since its inception, Military OneSource has staffed a 24-hour call center and web site. In 2008, Military OneSource launched a video-sharing community site expressly for military families: TroopTube. TroopTube is accessible through the Military OneSource web site [1]. In 2009, Military OneSource launched a blog for military families and the military community, the Blog-Brigade [2]. The Blog Brigade is an online hub for the military community, including a chaplains blog and site focussed on the First Lady Michelle Obama and her support and prioritization of military families.

Services

Military OneSource services include: emotional well-being, health and fitness, addiction and recovery; family life, parenting and child care, adult or child special needs, crisis support, elder care; military life (pre/post deployment, reunion, etc.), relocation and work concerns; tax consulting, e-filing, financial concerns; education; everyday issues (finding services in a local community, consumer issues); and more.

Call center consultants and counselors are required to have high levels of qualifications, such as licenses and master’s level education and training. Services are available through the private, 24-hour call center at 800-342-9647 as well as online at www.MilitaryOneSource.com [3].
