Kelenken is an extinct genus of giant flightless predatory birds of the family Phorusrhacidae or "terror birds", that lived in the Middle Miocene, some 15 million years ago, in Argentina. With a skull 28 inches (71 cm) long (including its 18 inch beak), it had the largest head of any known bird. It probably stood over 3 m (9 feet) tall. Kelenken is one of the largest members of its family. Its skull is very slender for its size, and it could swallow a medium-sized dog whole.
