Trade Roots

Tnxman307,

I'm asking you again to please undelete my article titled "TradeRoots" you wrote that it was deleted because it is an advertisement. I assure you that when the article is rewritten it will contain no such use of any promotional writing, in fact, I am going to write the page again with the "sandbox" tool and submit it to and editor before the article is posted. TradeRoots is a division of the US Chamber of Commerce, which has its own very detailed article on wikipedia and it would only enhance your site. Again, please undelete this article. Thank you.

In need of your mentorship

Hi,

I need help from an experienced Wikipedian, and I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.

I need your advice concerning a WikiProject I've been coordinating. Here's the situation:

The project is WP:WPOOK. The set of pages the project concerns is listed at Portal:Contents/Outline of knowledge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of knowledge#Projected outline, and has grown to about 500 articles in the encyclopedia. I also run a team of 5 advanced wiki-editors - the team communicates via user talk page posts. We use a variety of tools such as AWB, bots, Linky, etc. to execute tasks on batches of hundreds of pages at a time. Three of the team's members are admins, and 2 of the members have bot accounts. The team works on tasks that I assign, on the OOK and also on problems that the OOK has revealed in the encyclopedia-at-large (reverse outlines are good at that) - we've worked on things as diverse as creating country demonym disambiguation pages, to cleaning up the CIA World Factbook data on country "Demographics of" pages, to renaming "Cuisine of" articles to their demonymic form, to organizing the "Index of x articles" pages, etc. I also send out a newsletter or project update to the team, to the WikiProject members, and to anybody else who has been involved or who has expressed interest (20 to 30 Wikipedians).

So you see, we can implement just about any strategy. But we need more strategies. Your ideas on the following would be greatly appreciated...

The goals of the WikiProject are:

  1. Increase awareness of readers of the existence of the outlines on Wikipedia
  2. Complete the existing outlines
  3. Create an outline for every subject that is exensive enough to benefit from having an outline (core subjects and major or extensive fields). There are thousands of these.
  4. Recruit as many editors to work on these as possible (we need thousands of editors working on these)
  5. Surpass portals in number by the end of the summer, and leave them in the dust by the end of the year
  6. Get the major outline subject areas displayed on the Main Page (in place of or in addition to the portal links at the top of the page)
  7. Increase the OOK to higher quality than Britannica's Outline of Knowledge (published in its Propaedia volume).

We've posted over a thousand banners and notices so far, which resulted in just a couple complaints - one complainer posted at WT:WPOOK & WP:AN & WP:VPP and the other posted at WP:VPR. Not a bad negative feedback level for such a large posting. The complaints went nowhere, as several users came forward in defense of outlines.

I've proposed a 200-Wikiproject contest at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries, and I had notices posted on the talk pages of all the corresponding country WikiProjects' talk pages.

I've created some pointers for developing outlines to guide editors through the process of building outline pages, because once many editors are attracted, I won't be able to instruct them one-on-one. I've also been working on a new article for the subject, since the current article is very lacking.

I was hoping you could comment on how to achieve the goals above.

Also I'm interested in every possible way of reaching readers and editors of Wikipedia. How can I get the most eyes and typing fingers on Wikipedia's outlines? Contacting editors directly without a reason relevant to them is spam, which I'd like to avoid. There are 75,000 regular editors on Wikipedia, and I want to contact all of them. So how do I do it? Directly or indirectly, I don't care which, piecemeal or all-at-once, all methods are fine with me. But I've got to find ways. I need your help.

I would also like to know how to find or attract editors to create new outlines. And I need advice on finding editors to help write the new outline article mentioned above (it needs to be fleshed out, completely referenced, and brought to featured article status).

Can you recommend anyone in particular who might be interested in sinking their teeth into a project like this? Or ways to reach groups of editors? Or ways to reach all editors? I welcome any and all advice you might have.

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

Kosovo

Hey, I've edited the structure of the Kosovo article fully (as of 10:16, 1 June 2009) to try and mirror [this] as much as possible, since it's a 'stared article'. Yet I've had to do it twice now since it was edited again by some one else (even though I informed on the talk page about the change). I was wondering whether you think about the Kosovo article mirroring the structure of the Japan one? Interestedinfairness (talk) 10:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interestedinfairness (talk) 10:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say, that was one of the more creative vandals I have ever seen! I was about to put a speedy delete tag in the article when you deleted it (as you should have). Nonetheless, I was impressed with the effort. --Quartermaster (talk) 18:11, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen his/her stuff before too. It's funny, but it's a shame that they can't put their writing talents to better use. TNXMan 18:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

biography Daniel masson permission

Hello, i spent 2 hours to include a biography of an artist Daniel Masson in Wiki, i'm the author of this Biograpahy, and the artist manager of Daniel Masson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_masson. the system said i have no permission to use this content on this page http://danielmasson.net/biography/page0.html i contacted WIki staff by Email (Antti Aaltonen), i did not understand what he requires. he said : i must provide them with a clear statement that the copyright holder is releasing this content for redistribution under an allowable license, then the content may be used on Wikimedia projects. what kind of statement ?, what this statement should look like ?. If the copyright holder contact them directly it will be a enough proof of licence, how can i go through all this ???

please advise and help with clear simple procedures or solutions to get this content on Wiki.

Imed Khelifi, Artist manager of Daniel Masson —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthba7ith (talkcontribs) 18:39, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest way to do this is to post on the website in question that the content has released under a GDFL-compatible license. See this page for more info on how to do that. However, please read our info on advertising and why it is not allowed on Wikipedia. TNXMan 19:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

Hi,

I just tried to create a page for musical group Si*Sé's 2nd album and you deleted it. I read the reason why but am still confused. A page for my first album has been up and safe here on Wikipedia for years. How do I properly create a page for the 2nd album?

Also, I would like to add an image to artist's page.

Artist: Si*Sé

First album: Si*Sé

Thank you, Carol

Carolc10 (talk) 18:44, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I misread the page. You can find the page restored at More Shine. Let me know if there's anything else with which I can help. TNXMan 19:11, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted my page?

Good Greeting's to you Tnxman, I was wondering why you deleted my page. Sir, I do understand that it had no relevance when I first published it, but it was my first ever contribution to wikipedia and I was going to publish as i wrote. I don't know what sort of omnipotence you think you hold on the anonymous online world of Wikipedia, but I reckon you are a self- righteous arse hole; deleting my page without so much as a warning like that. I will have to ask you to stop this pathetic attempt at importance and get a life. Thanks, Best Wishes RobaSoba (talk) 18:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would still like an explanation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RobaSoba (talkcontribs) 16:47, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Global Goods Partners?

Good morning,

I read your reasoning for why you deleted my page, and I remain unconvinced. Can you please explain why you thought it "unambiguous advertising"? Thanks very much.

Blueasteroid777 (talk) 17:25, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appeared to be advertising because of the abundance of peacock terms and lack of reliable sources. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, writing from a neutral point of view, and how to support your article with reliable sources. TNXMan 18:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited the page in response to your helpful suggestions, and, if it's okay, will post it again before the end of the afternoon. If the page still seems unsatisfactory, could you possible comment on it before deleting it entirely? Thanks. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 18:59, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Before you do that, please consider posting the article to a sandbox first, where you can work on improving it before posting it to the mainspace. You can use a sandbox like this -> User:Blueasteroid777/Sandbox. If you post it to the mainspace right away, it still may be deleted by another admin. TNXMan 18:59, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I posted it to the Sandbox as you asked. Please let me know what needs to be changed so I can move it to the mainspace. Thanks. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 19:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article still looks like it needs some work. The best thing you can do is to list independent reliable sources that show why the company is notable (and remember, notability is the criteria for deciding whether or not articles can be kept). The sources must cover the company in detail (not passing mentions).

I feel like I have posted reliable sources. However, since we seem to disagree on this point, I want to know your thoughts on posting a stub. I think we can both agree that I can adequately cite the information necessary for a stub, and if someone else feels that the organization is indeed notable (as I do), then they can expand the stub. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 19:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That seems like a good compromise. Let me know if you have questions on getting the stub going. TNXMan 19:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lockwood Analytical Method for Prediction (LAMP)

Could you explain why you deleted this page, calling it advertising? LAMP is an academic approach to predictive analysis being taught by American Public University and there is no product to be "bought." As an APU student, I was trying to share information with fellow students who are involved in analytical work, and I don't think you should delete any submissions without first addressing any issues you may have with the submitter.

Majormadmax (talk) 18:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted because it was promoting a subject/idea. However, since the article has been reposted, it is now the subject of a deletion discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/Lockwood Analytical Method for Prediction. TNXMan 18:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Submission for Darell "Fishgrease" Murray

Hi,

We are new to posting to Wikipedia, and I thought I understood the basics. I posted a listing for Darell "Fishgrease" Murray. He is the brother of Keith Murray (American-Rapper). This was my significance in the posting.

He is an up and coming music artist and I believe it should be in Wikipedia.

Can you help me to re-list it?

We can be reached via e-mail at <blanked>

Thanks- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Islandpalmmusic (talkcontribs) 21:01, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Before you think about trying to relist the page, you should take a look the requirements for a biographical article in general and a musician's article in particular. You may also want to read our tips on writing your first article. After that, you could work on the article in a sandbox where you can work on improving the article before moving it to the mainspace. (I've removed your email address so that the bots that crawl the internet don't pick it up and spam you). TNXMan 21:30, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help, please

I noticed you marked the article I posted for deletion and had some concerns about my UserID. I am new to the site and work for Yum! Brands, I wanted to post an article about our World Hunger Relief program and partnership with the World Food Programme. I have the authority to copy content from our FromHungertoHope.com site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yum!brands (talkcontribs) 18:29, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, first of all, welcome to Wikipedia. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, conflict of interest (as well as tips on what to do if you have one), and how to write neutrally. With regards to the info from the website, we really have no confirmation that you are who you say you are. You can donate the material, but please see this page on how to do that. Finally, as to your username, please see this page to learn your username may not be the best fit. TNXMan 18:42, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gayboygayboy101 block

Hi, just a note about this usernameblock. Just as I finished commenting that the name isn't offensive or disruptive, I noticed you'd blocked him. We have at least a couple of other usernames containing the word "gay," and this name wasn't a form of attack. I think it would have been better to wait and block him for vandalism. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:34, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about an attack, but I do feel it was blatantly disruptive. Of course, if the user would like to request a new username, I'd have no problem unblocking them. TNXMan 19:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious about why you feel this particular name is blatantly disruptive. As I mentioned, we do have other users whose usernames include the word "gay." Exploding Boy (talk) 01:26, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds to me like a taunt and/or name calling. I know there are other users with "gay" in their name, but this didn't seem like a legitimate use of the word. If you disagree, please feel free to unblock. TNXMan 11:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm pretty sure he was heading for a block anyway. I was just curious about the username issue. There have been a couple I've wondered about in the last day or so. Thanks. Exploding Boy (talk) 15:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There has been some discussion about usernames at WT:U. As an active admin at UAA, you may be interested in the discussion also. Were there any other blocks of mine about which you had concerns? I welcome any review of my actions. TNXMan 16:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No. There was another username that was posted on the UAA board and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. When the user was then blocked I was concerned, but it turned out to have been a vandalblock, not a usernameblock. When I asked person who posted the username for attention, they more or less said it was a case of overzealousness. Exploding Boy (talk) 16:25, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few of those I've noticed also. Combined with batch username reports and accounts that are years old, sometimes it can difficult to sort out violations from non-violations. TNXMan 16:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo

Me again, the Kosovo page is being attacked constantly by people refusing to accept fact.

  • One example; the article talks of Serbian boys taken as "slave booty" to Asia during the Ottoman period - the source is Serb historian with no reputation
  • My source; Ira Lapidus - is standard university text for the study of Islamic societies (in this case the Ottoman empire), explains how Christian boys were taken from the Balkans - not from Serbia in particular - and enlisted in the Janissary corps when they were older

Thuranx keeps editing, for no apparent reason. I have tried to instigate discussion with him here on my talk page, but he gives no specific examples of my "vandalism". He seems to be pushing POV or in any case, wants to maintain the status quo regarding the Kosovo article. It should be noted that the Kosovo article is tagged as not neutral and full of misleading citations. I have tried to add numerous citations but there is a huge problem with the editors (possibly administrator (s)) on the page. I would like to know what you think.

(Interestedinfairness (talk) 00:39, 4 June 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

It sounds like it is time for you and ThuranX to pursue dispute resolution. There are several steps to this process, but you seem to have completed the first few (attempting discussions on user/article talk). If you head over to the link I provided, you'll find people much more experienced than I am in handling disagreements. TNXMan 11:52, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

World Innovation Summit for Education

Hello,

I have just seen that you deleted the World Innovation Summit for Education page, with a G11 code. I am trying to create a page that would explain the aims of this summit organized by the non-profit organization Qatar Foundation, in the way the World_Economic_Forum page does. I am new on Wikipedia but I am trying to write it from a neutral point of view. I know this is the first edition of the summit but I am not trying to advertise for it or whatever as there is no possibility to register to participate to the summit.

How can I properly create a page for this summit ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Constance l (talk) 15:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct that the page was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. I would encourage you to do a few things. First of all, read our info on writing your first article, what makes an organization notable, and how to write from a neutral point of view. Secondly, please consider working on the article in a sandbox (something like User:Constance l/Sandbox) before moving the article to the mainspace. Finally, read our page on peacock terms and how to avoid them. TNXMan 15:37, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your opinion please...

You wrote: "For the record, I completely agree with your comment at UAA. I did a little searching and it appears that Iquin is upset that Jauerback nominated an article at AfD.

User:Daniel Case suggested that a block was in order.

I have been contributing to the wikipedia for close to five years, and I have over 40,000 edits under my belt.

Over the years I have seen or experienced things that make me sensitive to governance issues. I am afraid I have found some administrators are reckless. I am afraid I have found some administrators throw their weight around, and bully regular users.

When I had my concern over User:Jauerback's offensive name I looked at UAA, and decided I was not familiar enough with the procedures and standards there to nominate his name for consideration. I admit I am unfamiliar with the procedures, so perhaps you could fill me in:

1.

What kinds of comments, at UAA, from a contributor with a previously clean record, should prompt a threat of blocking?

2.

Do you agree that either User:Iqinn or myself merited being threatened with a block?

3.

When an administrator makes a threat of a block, isn't there a checklist of things they should check off? Shouldn't they:

  1. make clear to the other contributor that the block threat was addressed at them?
  2. make clear the other contributor understood why they were being threatened with a block?
  3. make sure the other contributor understood what they needed to do to avoid being blocked?

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 18:14, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I said "a block should be considered", which to me does not constitute a threat (Saying "I will block you for this," by contrast, would). But I feel it should be on the table if someone, no matter how good their standing, tries to settle a content dispute with a report to AIV or UAA. I consider it akin to making a phony 911 call. It is a serious misuse of resources, and an abuse of trust.
(edit conflict) Thank for taking the time to consider this issue. Hopefully, my answers will help you out.
1. I think any bad-faith actions should warrant a consideration of a block. If you'll remember, Daniel Case's comment (link goes to entire conversation before I removed it) only mentioned the consideration, not an actual block.
2. You should not have been threatened with a block and I don't see a record of a threat of one (unless I missed something?). Iquinn was rightly told that bad-faith actions (using a noticeboard, such as UAA or AIV, where immediate administrative action is requested, to report a user with whom s/he was in a content dispute), are frowned upon and warrant the consideration of a block.
3. Yes to all of those things and I think Daniel Case's comment covered those. However, I don't want to speak for Daniel or for what he did or did not intend with his comment.
I hope this helps address your concerns and please let me know if I can help further. TNXMan 18:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the support. I will clarify that, to me, "consideration" of a block means the kind of activity that takes place at AN/I, where a group discussing the issue reaches a consensus as to whether such action is necessary or not. (I should also add that this is not the first time at UAA that someone filed a frivolous report against an established user as apparent payback for an action elsewhere. And yes, when that happened, I was just as clear about it being blockable (diff later, if you want)). Daniel Case (talk) 18:49, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jolly Technologies

Hello Tnxman307

Today you deleted one of the pages I created "Jolly Technologies". I wonder why it was deleted. I wrote this page by copy pasting content from anothe software company and I have seen so many small companies, like TechSmith listed on WikiPedia. Whereas Jolly Technologies is a world renowned company with over 10,000 clients, including US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, Intel, Symantec, Dell, Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Purdue, Boeing, Siemens. The company is #1 in security industry. Just curious what was the criteria used for considering this company non-notable so that I will not waste my time on future articles. I put so much efforts on learning syntax all that to prepare this page.

Best regards,

Bullying Produce for Kids

Tnxman307: I want a better explanation, rationale and clear understanding as to why the Produce for Kids page continues to be deleted, because I believe this is completely unjustified.
Produce for Kids is a non-profit. My goal is to create an informational page about the organization and those efforts have been prevented numerous times with causes that do NOT match the speedy deletion requirements.
Even after attempting to make my case against speedy deletion, you went and deleted the page AGAIN, for an entirely DIFFERENT reason.
If you do explain your actions, I will report this as online bullying.

TNXMan 14:05, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the speedy reply. I'm glad to see it was almost as quick as your two deletions. I want it recorded that I was not given an effective amount of time to write on the page why Produce for Kids is notable, since the page was deleted so quickly. There was no opportunity to showcase the media reports that the campaign has received, because again, before I could, you deleted the page. I have created two Wikipedia pages and both times I've created them in the main space and have had little difficulty, except in this instance.
I will move forward with creating this page in the sandbox, but the issue remains, as soon as I export it from my sandbox, there is no guarantee that my content will stay live on the main space. This is the fourth attempt to create a Produce for Kids page, which means the page will be deleted again with little-to-no justification. Just the arbitrary and subjective A7 clause that you editors seem to throw about. If it continues to happen, this bullying will be reported. --Greedo (talk) 14:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the criteria to which you refer is neither arbitrary or subjective. The best way to ensure an article sticks is to provide reliable sources that demonstrate why the company is notable. Also, please check out the links I provided earlier. They have some very useful information. TNXMan 14:26, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your block of User:Bin Ladens Osama

I'm not actually contesting it, I'm just curious as to exactly which part of username policy you blocked them for, as it is not specified in your notice. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:19, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The block was for having a disruptive username. To quote from WP:U, disruptive usernames do include "outright trolling…", which was pretty obvious, given their talk page edits. Also, they asked for a block! :) TNXMan 20:24, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Who knows? I can't see the fun in it, because you would think the point of vandalizing is to not get caught. TNXMan 20:31, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you deleting my articles???

I've spent the whole day writing articles about I Love Wynona and their release A Beautiful Noise - and now you are deleting them??? That's NOT funny, we're in the middle of the promo campaign and I really don't have time for this! Please recreate the article at once!

I'm sorry, but Wikipedia cannot be used for promotional purposes. All of our articles must be written from a neutral point of view and be supported by independent reliable sources. TNXMan 14:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I'd been allowed to add anything before it was deleted, I'd have added that Storås Artist Promo Team only is a cooperation project. There is no commercial company with that name. We're three persons trying to promo work as cheap as possible for local acts. According to the userpage, it's his actual name, which is OK. The name of the ad agency would warrant a block, however. TNXMan 14:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see that now but the way it looked above was confusing. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 14:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was just about to add the sources. I started using Wikipedia today, and didn't understand how the link system works before you deleted my post... Please let the text back in and let me add the sources. (Do you really think I do promo work without reliable, independent sources?)

This is NOT a promotional purpose. I've written about the history behind the record and details around the release. As fast as I have sources, there should be no reason for not having this published. If this is the threshold for getting anything published here, then Wikipedia can't be called democratic.

Question regarding deletion

Hi there. I am trying to post an Article about our organization (American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists). The article was just deleted. This article does not promote the organization - it simply defines our Mission Statement.

I am just wondering what I need to do to properly submit this. There are many national organizations on wikipedia:

National societies • American Cancer Society, an American medical organization • American Chemical Society, an American professional association • American Colonization Society, an organization that helped in founding Liberia, for use in the slave trade • American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, an organization of lawyers and law students in the United States • American Cryonics Society, non-profit corporation that supports and promotes research and education into cryonics • Australian Cinematographers Society • Australian Computer Society, an association for information and communications technology professionals —Preceding unsigned comment added by Craig Pharma (talkcontribs) 18:22, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are many organizations with articles on Wikipedia. These organizations have articles because they have shown why they are notable. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, using independent reliable sources, and writing from a neutral point of view. TNXMan 18:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alta Mira (Band) Deleted

Sir,

You've deleted a page I was working on about a band called Alta Mira, of which my record label (Indian Ledge Records) is about to release with nationwide AAA radio promotion. If I need to be more specific in my details please let me know, however I would like to have a page up for them before the release. Please advise me on how not to have the page deleted again. Thank you,

Nick Cosimano CEO Indian Ledge Records —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluecube (talkcontribs) 19:20, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Wikipedia cannot be used for promotion of a band and/or an album. I would encourage you to read our info on what makes a band notable, our guide to writing your first article and writing neutrally. You'll also want to provide multiple independent reliable sources that demonstrate the band's notability. TNXMan 19:51, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your proposal on the Username RFC

It appears to have gotten a good consensus. If you want to go ahead, I think that would be fine. Drop me a line after you make the changes and I'll look over them if you like. Gigs (talk) 22:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username policy

While the changes to the policy are definitely in the right direction, I can't help but feeling like we are not accomplishing much in terms of getting reports of obvious promotion off of UAA and into a better place. As long as it still looks like the best option in Twinkle is to report advertising to UAA, we'll probably have this problem. Maybe we could add a new checkbox in Twinkle's ARV->AIV section for "account is being used for promotional purposes"? Gigs (talk) 18:01, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That may be good option. Is there a way to generate a default report for the COI board? I think the concern is that there are users whose edits we need to watch, but immediate action is not required. TNXMan 20:54, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think that is one class of complaint, but there is at least as many that have already made clearly promotional edits. We should probably make it easy to report promotion to both COIN and AIV depending on the complexity and how obvious the promotion was. Clear cut and obvious to AIV and questionable to COIN. I put in one Twinkle bug report to change the UAA help text. I can put in some more to do the other stuff, but we might want to get consensus first. Gigs (talk) 20:58, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Black & Tan Records page

Hello,

Firstly, I am new to Wikipedia, so please forgive me if I don't follow the correct procedures or etiquette -It's quite daunting to start.

I understand that you were party to the deletion of the Black & Tan Records page I created earlier today, and that it was deleted on the principle that the subject is not noteworthy.

In defence of the article, I would like to point out that this record label is as notable as several labels listed on the Blues page in the paragraph about blues music in the 1990s. I chose to write about this label as part of a project I'm planning about keeping the Blues alive as a genre and the influence of specialist labels, artists and podcasters. Black & Tan, is already refered to on other articles, and is of similar significance as Ruf records and Northern Blues whose pages I used to set the tone and content for this article.

I hope this is sufficient justification, but if not, I'd be grateful for further guidance.

Thanks for your help,

Versificator (talk) 18:51, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article which you wrote did not indicate why the record label is notable. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article and supporting your article with independent reliable sources. Before the label can have an article, you'll have to show that it received significant coverage in independent sources. TNXMan 19:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agilo for Scrum Page

Dear TNXMan, thanks for your message :-)

Since the very first beginning I tried to make all the entries in a proper way. Some guys helped me and I regularly update the links and information. Agilo is a young tool, therefor there are not sooo many official test, but a huge amount of downloaders are proving, that Scrum, and also the only open source tool Agilo, is getting more and more attention. One reason for that is also, that Agilo contains a help and guideline that supports people to get used to Scrum and to introduce it to the teams. Somehow is "taking them by the hand". I am in contact with some magazines to write independent test article to be able to insert more useful links. For the moment I can just ask you to have a look on google and you will find a lot of blog posts talking an evaluating the tool.

I would be really happy if you could tell me what is needed to make the page better and more valuable so its worth to be in Wikipedia.

I am looking forward to your feedback Marion --Teckmx5 (talk) 15:54, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Tnxman307,

i saw you deleted my work without any warnings :( I would like to know why exactly. I'm not a salaryman of this company but i'm doing an internship and i would like that people know more about serious gaming. And B2B Game is the major french company in Serious gaming. Wait, I'm confused. According to this, it says to always subst the block templates. TNXMan 19:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. OK. I'm not convinced it's a good idea now that the markup has grown to be such a large part of the templates. I'll take that up in an appropriate forum some other day. Sorry. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 19:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. For a minute there, I froze. "Is it "always" subst? "Never" subst? Where did I see that?" I had to do some quick digging to find it again. If you do start that conversation, let me know. I'd be interested to see the debate. Best, TNXMan 20:00, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I dropped a note at Wikipedia talk:Template messages/User talk namespace. It seems to me that we are operating like the family cook stuck in a tradition of sawing the ham bone in half before roasting the ham, despite the fact that we now have a big enough oven that such a procedure is not required. Removed prod from Advancement Project

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Advancement Project, which you proposed for deletion, because I think that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

PS: I totally understand why you nominated it. I almost supported the proposed deletion but I did a quick Google News search and that organization is mentioned so many times in the media it's ridiculous. I'd almost support its deletion as WP:IDONTLIKEIT but I have to honor Wikipedia's policies. I did replace just about all the article text because it was all a copyvio from the company's web page. -- Atamachat 20:24, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm OK with the stubbification (is that a word?) that you performed. I have the article on my watchlist and will monitor updates to make sure any advert-ish material doesn't creep in over time. Thanks for the heads up! TNXMan 20:27, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CDMA Development Group (CDG)

Hi Tnxman307,

Earlier today I submitted a page for the CDMA Development Group (CDG), a non-profit industry consortium of member companies that have been instrumental in bring the CDMA wireless standard to be used around the world. The purpose of our page is to provide some of the history behind the development of CDMA technology, and the steps the CDG and its member companies have taken (and continue to take) to get the standard accepted and adopted by operators around the world. It's important history not found on other CDMA Wikipedia pages.

I've noticed that other industry group pages are posted, most notably the CTIA's Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CTIA_-_The_Wireless_Association). There is also one about 3GSM (Mobile World Congress) just from the trade show this year, which to me seems to be a flagrant advertisement for the annual conference.

I'm hoping you can provide some additional feedback as to what I need to do to make our submission seem less advertorial. We want our page to be a reference for people looking for information about CDMA and its history, as well as the companies that have shaped its development and adoption. Would a list of member companies help? Press write ups? More history in prose?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bshewmake

Bshewmake (talk) 21:01, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, please remember that the inclusion or exclusion of one article has no bearing on the inclusion or exclusion of another article. This type of argument is generally referred to as "What about article X?". Your particular article was deleted because it was written with very promotional language and did not cite any independent third-party reliable sources. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, as well as how to write from a neutral point of view. You can also work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace before moving it to the mainspace, as this will give you time to improve it. TNXMan 14:20, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity?

hello,

I created a page and you have deleted it, the reason being - "some publicity thing".

i would be very greatful if you could suggest some changes - which will help me make the article better and the reason for deletion will go away.

i am very sure the article that i have written is definately NOT for publicity purpose.

Thanks. Regards, Shruti. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shrutikamthe (talkcontribs) 04:27, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted for two reasons: first, it did not indicate why the subject was notable and secondly, it appeared to be advertising. I would suggest you read our info on writing your first article and how to write from a neutral point of view. You should also work on the article in a sandbox before the moving the article to the mainspace, as this will allow you to improve the article with worrying about deletion. TNXMan 14:14, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You've just deleted 2, The Ranting Gryphon an article in which I was discussing the reasons for deletion with its creator. He was stating that one of the reasons it met WP:N was because the show was featured on RantMedia. I totally agree with your decision to delete of course, I was just wondering whether I should PROD RantMedia too. It does look like a bit of an advert in my opinion but I'm not very experienced in these things so I thought I'd ask your advice. ɪntəsvɛnsk 14:22, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would support either cleaning up the article (and boy, does it need it) or a PROD tag. As it stands, the article is basically a channel guide and none of the sources listed are independent (they're either from the company itself or supported artists). Let me know if you need help with anything regarding the article. Best, TNXMan 14:25, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've put a PROD tag on with the reason that it doesn't seem to meet WP:N in its current state and that none of the references are independent. It was created about six weeks ago there has been sufficient time for the author to find decent references but they can always argue their case if they need more time. Kind regards. ɪntəsvɛnsk 14:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Review of revised "Still Water" page

Hi Tnxman,

I'm wondering if you had time to see the revisions I made, at your suggestion, to the Still Water page in my sandbox, as described in my post of 29 May. As mentioned in that post, I rewrote the entry using the {cite} syntax, explained that the projects mentioned in the original "Selected Press" section were Still Water projects, and added more potential external references to show notability.

I can understand if it might be too time-consuming for you to review these external links; would it be helpful if I put together a compilation of the excerpts describing Still Water (on a non-Wikipedia page, for example) so you don't have to pull them from the actual articles?

Thanks, as always, for your time.

Jon Ippolito (talk) 17:45, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll review the article later this evening, unfortunately I don't have time right now. Best, TNXMan 20:22, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've looked over the article. I removed the external links that were in the body of the article. Also, be sure to integrate the material from the Selected Press into the article as references. For example, the first link talked about The Pool. You can use that source as reference material for section of the article that talks about the Pool, instead of keeping it in a separate section. The article is looking a lot better. TNXMan 13:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ZMET

You deleted my page - I have put a lot of research and effort into it. I don't understand how is it unambiguous advertising and promotion. I am not even sure how to recreate it as you have provided no feedback and reading the articles published about this topic is not helpful either (I did check and read them before). Is it advertising because I list the only companies able to do ZMET? I can delete those references, no problem, but I thought that this was part of the essential info as ZMET cannot be used by just anyone (it is patented). Please help me, I would like to publish this correctly, thought I had, and am a bit at a loss. Thanks DeepMatters (talk) 20:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. More specifically, the article read like a brochure or press release. I would suggest you read our info on writing your first article, writing from a neutral point of view, and how to avoid peacock terms. If you would like a copy of the article, I can restore the article to a sandbox in your userspace so you can work on improving it. TNXMan 20:28, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thank you so much, that would be great! I did read those materials, it was not intended to sound like a brochure :) I will rework it - is there anyway you can have a look at it before I publish it again in order to avoid it being deleted again? Thanks for your help and time! DeepMatters (talk) 20:40, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. What do you think now? Any better? Thanks so much! DeepMatters (talk) 00:16, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've cleaned up some of the formatting. I would also suggest you look at sections two, three, and four. These sections need some clean up - removing the TM symbols, sourcing quotes, etc. I would also suggest you remove the list of companies entirely, as Wikipedia is not a directory. TNXMan 13:24, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Maria Mitchell Association page

Hello,

The reason for the deletion of this page was A7, meaning that the page does not indicate why the subject is important or significant. Being a non-profit organization, the goal of this page is not to advertise or to attract consumers, but rather to inform the general population about what we do and why Maria Mitchell was such an important woman in the history of astronomy and education. If you could please tell me what would need to be added or changed in order for the page to be posted I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you, Mariamitchell1818 (talk) 15:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
