Mission statement

The mission of the Avon High School staff is excellence in instruction and learning for all students. It is our responsibility to help students reach their full potential and master challenging curricula. Students will be taught the importance of academic excellence, critical thinking, and communication skills required for the 21st century. In addition, our staff will foster an environment of personal integrity, responsibility, empathy for others, and respect for cultural diversity. In a collaborative effort with colleagues, students, parents, and the community, the Avon High School staff will monitor student achievement through state and local assessments and respond with a systemic plan of intervention to meet the needs of students who are failing to meet rigorous standards.

Marching band

The marching band, Avon Marching Black and Gold, led by Jay Webb, Matt Harloff, and Robert Burns, was ranked number one in the state of Indiana by the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) seven years in a row (two times in Class B, five times in Class A).[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] The winning streak ended during the ISSMA state championship on November 1, 2008, when they placed second.[9] Two weeks later, on November 15, 2008, they placed first for the first time in the school's history during Bands of America Grand Nationals, a national competition in which 80 to 90 high school marching bands compete every year. Avon scored a 97.75, out of a possible 100 points. It the highest score received at any Bands of America event.[10]

Golf

The golf team won the 2008-2009 Indiana state title in golf. Avon beat Evansville North by two strokes, while Hamilton Southeastern finished third. The team is coached by Brent Sailor.[11]

Avon Advanced Learning Center

The Avon Advanced Learning Center, a learning center for seniors at Avon High School, will open in the fall of 2010.[12]

Harris Academy

Harris Academy is a learning community for juniors and seniors for both Avon High School and Brownsburg High School. It is designed to assist and support students who are having trouble in school or their personal life, have dropped out of high school, or just desire a less traditional learning environment.[13] Students began attending Harris Academy during the 2006-2007 school year.
