The Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) is a group of Formula One teams that was formed at a meeting in Maranello on 29 July 2008.[1]
The association, directed by the president of Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, consists of the following teams, all of which are competing in the 2009 Formula One season.

This new organisation gives the teams a united voice in their ongoing discussions with the FIA and The Formula One Group regarding the future of Formula One. Headed by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo,[2] the first task of FOTA will be to negotiate the terms of the new Concorde Agreement, the commercial contract which governs the championship.
The group will also discuss the proposal to the FIA for the Formula One regulations for the 2011 season. Team principal of the Brawn GP team, Ross Brawn, has offered his services to co-ordinate this activity. If the teams cannot provide their proposal by October 2008, the FIA will impose its own rules for the championship.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).
Due to the budget limit discussion, the Williams team has been currently suspended by FOTA.[3] After FOTA making a statement to the FIA by not signing in for the next year championship, Williams ignored this statement by signing in for the next year championship. The deadline for the sign in session passed on 29 May. Force India have also been suspended for the same reason. [4]
Following lengthy discussions, on the evening of June 18th 2009, FOTA announced a breakaway series from F1. However, Williams and Force India teams will not be able to participate in the breakaway series because of their contractual obligation with the FIA.[5] However, FOTA reached an agreement with the FIA and will now not form a breakway series.[6]
