David Lichtenstein (born 1960), founder and CEO of The Lightstone Group, is one of the largest private landlords in the United States.

He currently resides in Monsey, NY. David Lichtenstein founded The Lightstone Group in 1988 and has led the Company’s extraordinary growth into one of the largest privately-held real estate companies in the country. The Lightstone Group has consistently been expanding its diverse portfolio in the residential, industrial, office, retail and hotel industries throughout the United States.

The Lightstone Group has become one of the largest residential and commercial owners and operators of real estate in the United States today. The Company is now ranked among the 25 largest real estate companies in the industry with a diversified portfolio of over 18,000 residential units and approximately 30 million square feet of office, industrial and retail properties in 27 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Lightstone Group also owns Extended Stay Hotels, the largest, mid-price extended-stay hotel company in the United States, with 687 hotels and approximately 76,000 rooms located in 44 states and Canada. The company currently operates under five brands in the extended-stay segment: Extended Stay Deluxe, Extended Stay America, Homestead Studio Suites, StudioPlus and Crossland. On June 15, 2009 Extended Stay filed for bankruptcy protection. The Wall Street Journal has reported that a possible triggering of a "bad boy" clause in Extended Stay's financing documents could trigger a personal liability payment by Mr Lichtenstein of $100 million and that that would imperil the rest of his real estate empire.[1]

Headquartered in New York, The Lightstone Group has over 12,000 employees and maintains regional offices in Maryland, Illinois and New Jersey.
