A makeover is a term applied to changing ones appearance, usually through cosmetics. Makeovers can range from something as simple as a new haircut, to the extreme of cosmetic surgery.

Makeovers are often popular television subjects. Long time the stuff of daytime talk shows, recently they have moved into the limelight with such television shows as Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. This program also has the distinction of moving makeovers out of a realm which was once largely female into the mainstream for men. Besides Queer Eye, popular makeover shows include Extreme Makeover and Ambush Makeover.

Such shows as While You Were Out and Trading Spaces are examples of home makeover programs.
