Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital is the 14th government medical college, situated at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It's also the first ever government medical college in NEW DHAKA. The government set up the college to spread medical knowledge and to make more efficient doctors of the country. This medical college is surrounded by many other specialized hospital; such as, the National Institute of Cardiac and Vascular Disease, the National Eye Hospital, the National Kidney Institute and the National Mental Hospital.
History
After a long period of consideration, the government decided on 5th September, 2005 to make the Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital into a medical college. Educational activities in the college began on the 6th May, 2006. In the inaguration ceremony the then health minister, Khandakar Mosharof Hossain started the educational activities officially. Originally, the medical college was known as Begum Khaleda Zia Medical College, and begun its journey with 100 students. However, on the 1st July, 2009, the name of the medical college was changed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. Now it has more than 500 students in its 4 batches.
