While I agree that it would be a surprise if he is not selected, everything on WP should be verifiable and cited to a Reliable source. I am sure that they will release some sort of statement before the season starts. But you never know, he could get hurt during the pre-season and never play, which means he won't be the captain. He is not captain now, there are no rosters during the off-season, so how is he captain? It's been discussed at Talk:List of current NHL captains and alternate captains and WP:HOCKEY but you can bring it up again if you want, no other team has one listed.
