Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change


It’s the effort of Worlds wealthiest and developing group of 17 countries against global warming. US president Barack Hussein Obama officially announced the launch of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate in L'Aquila Italy July 2009

Organization

The 17 major economies are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Denmark

History

A preparatory session was held at the Department of State on April 27-28 in Washington, D.C under the auspice of president Obama And invite other 16 nations to the The 17-nation Major Economies Forum summit in L'Aquila Italy along with G8 summit july 2009

Members

The members are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Activities

Significant climate change commitments have been made by the leaders MEFECC.It have a working strategy along with UNFCCC to follow Kyoto Protocol and the G-8 commitment to reduce carbon emission by 2050 and its midterm goal 2020
