"Hallelujah" is a term used in the Bible to praise God. The hebrew expression Hallelu-Yah is understood as "Praise Jah, you people!" or simply "Praise Jah!" Jah is the shortened form of the name Yahweh or Jehovah.

The term is used about 24 times in the Old Testament and four times in greek transliteration in Revelation.
